FREDERICK KROLL Obituary

KROLL, FREDERICK J. Frederick J. Kroll, 59, of Branford, died Monday April 27, 2015 at Yale-New Haven Hospital, from injuries received in a motorcycle accident. He was the fiancé of Beth Mishler of Branford. Fred was born September 1, 1955 in New Haven, son of Frederick and Katherine Duffy Kroll of Guilford. Fred was the owner of Kroll Electrical, and was also a successful realtor with Coldwell Banker Coast and Country in Guilford. Fred lived life with passion and verve. Inevitably the life of the party, Fred was charming, witty and had boundless energy to pursue his varied interests. Fred was an avid sailor and motorcycle enthusiast. Fred graduated from Xavier High School in 1973. Following graduation, Fred worked full time and attended evening classes at Eli Whitney Technical School to pursue a career in electrical contracting. Fred’s reputation as a highly creative, skilled, and meticulous electrician earned him both high profile residential and commercial clientele in the New Haven area. In his mid 40’s, feeling that had not reached his full potential, Fred enrolled at Gateway Community College. Because of his love for nature and the environment, Fred chose the Environmental Science and Toxicology Program from which he graduated with honors in 2002, winning the Best Student Award for 2001. He then transferred to Yale University under the Yale Special Students Program, which embraces non-traditional students in a traditional college environment. Fred graduated in 2006 from Yale University, Timothy Dwight College, with BA Degrees in American Studies and African Studies. While at Yale, he was a member of the Conservative Party. He was a member of the Yale Club of New York City. Fred was a Mason with Ansantawae Lodge No. 89 and was a longtime member of the Owenego Beach and Tennis Club in Branford. Besides his fiancé and his parents, Fred is survived by his cousin, Mary Beth Duffy of Boston, and scores of friends who came to know and love him for his unique qualities. Fred will be sorely missed by his two cats, Pip and Rory. Friends may call Friday from 4 – 8 PM at the W. S. Clancy Memorial Funeral Home, 244 North Main Street, Branford, and are invited to a memorial service Saturday afternoon at 3:00 at Trinity Episcopal Church, on the green in Branford. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be sent to the Dan Cosgrove Animal Shelter, 749 East Main Street, Branford, CT 06405 or to Xavier High School, c/o Frederick J. Kroll, 181 Randolph Road, Middletown, CT 06457. For directions and online memorial, see www.wsclancy.com

I had the pleasure to know Freddie for the 12 years i owned restaurants in New Haven and am blessed to say that he worked on many of our projects: Gentree Ltd, Bruxelles, Scoozzi and others. He was a good man with an easy smile and most of all generous. While i had not seen him in years, I did have the pleasure to speak with him last year. He sounded the same. The world was a better place with him in it. While i was saddened when i heard he news, let us all raise our hearts and celebrate a life well lived. Ciao to Freddie.

Fred was certainly a character, a gentle soul with a zest for life. He was one of the first people we became friends with in Branford when we moved here a little over a year ago. Our lives were enriched by knowing him, and we always enjoyed his company (even when he was working as our electrician). Our condolences go out to his fiance and his family. He will be missed by many.
