NEWTON - Dorothy "Dottie" E. Margarum, 89, passed away Tuesday, April 15, 2014, at Bristol Glen. Born in Union City to the late Charles and Freda (Harm) Roveda, Mrs. Margarum had lived in Sussex County since 1942. She had been employed as a bookkeeper for Winter's Auto Parts in Sussex for 20 years and retired in 1982. Mrs. Margarum was a trustee of the Sussex-Wantage Public Library Association, past president of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Sussex Fire Department, taught Sunday School at the First Presbyterian Church of Sussex, and was a Red Hat Lady. Mrs. Margarum was predeceased by her husband, Theodore; her brother, Harold Roveda; and her sister, Madeline Hunt. She is survived by her son, Ford Margarum and his wife, Mary, of Franklin; her daughter, Jane M. Dunstan and her husband, Richard, of Wantage; her four grandchildren, Lindsay Margarum, of Hoboken, Courtney Margarum, of Boston, Mass., Erin Dunstan, of Hamburg, and Ashlee Haggerty and her husband, Devin, of Bethlehem Township; and one great-grandson, Mason Haggerty. Friends may pay their respects to the family from 10 a.m. to noon Thursday, April 17, at Pinkel Funeral Home, 31 Bank St. (Route 23), Sussex. Funeral services will follow at noon at the funeral home. NEWTON - Carol Ann (Petrlak) McKendree, 65, of Newton, died Sunday, April 13, 2014, at Morristown Medical Center after a short illness. Born in Newton, over the years Carol lived in Franklin, Sparta, Morristown, Branchville; Bradenton and Ellenton, Fla.; and West Jordan, Utah, before settling in at Liberty Towers in Newton where she made many dear friends. Carol Ann attended Kings College in Briarcliff, N.Y., and nursing school in Florida where she became a registered nurse. She obtained her Bachelor of Science degree from Nyack College. Carol was a registered nurse for 30 years and retired 10 years ago. Carol Ann worked as a registered nurse at Morristown Memorial Hospital, St. Clare's Hospital in Dover, the Homestead, Bristol Glen, and ended her nursing career at Newton Memorial Hospital. Carol Ann was vice president of the Tenants Association at Liberty Towers, an active member of the auxiliary and volunteered in the gift shop at St. Clare's Hospital in Dover. In retirement, Carol Ann continued to garden. She loved flowers, especially daffodils; her cat, Adaline; and all her good friends. She will be missed by many. The daughter of Herman A. and the late Edith (Strait) Petrlak, Carol Ann also was predeceased by her husband, Charles I. McKendree; aunt, Edna Strait Drake; and grandmother, Irene Strait. She is survived by her half-brother, Lawrence H. Petrlak, of Washington, Utah, and her half-sister, Lisa M. Petrlak, of Apache Junction, Ariz. A graveside service will be held 10:30 a.m. Saturday, April 19, at North Hardyston Cemetery, 3312 Route 94, Hardyston Township.
