Lewitus, William J.*
SPARTA - William J. Lewitus, 90, of Sparta, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family, at his daughter's home on Monday, Feb. 23, 2015. Bill was born in Newark, and lived in Sparta for the past 47 years. He was a proud member of the United States Army during World War II, fighting in the Battle of the Bulge as an infantryman with the 78th Lightning Division. He received three Purple Hearts and a Bronze Star. Bill worked as a salesman for Dentrex Inc, a dental supply company, for many years retiring in his early 80s. Bill is survived by his beloved wife of 64 years, Susan "Jo" Creech Lewitus; father of Alan Lewitus and his wife, Marianne Burke, of Fairfax, Va.; Amy Ballard and her late husband, Ray, of Davidson, N.C.; Jil Sinon and her husband, Craig, of Sparta; brother of Carol "Link" Klein; and beloved grandfather of Valerie, Margaret, and Will Lewitus and Zakk, Carlee, and Savannah Sinon. Services are being held privately under the direction of the Goble Funeral Home, 22 Main St., Sparta, 07871. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in his memory to The Wounded Warrior Project, P.O. Box 758517, Topeka, Kan., 66675.
