How to place an obituary in The New Jersey Herald

The New Jersey Herald accepts obituaries from funeral homes and individuals by e-mail: [email protected], fax:(973) 383-8477 and in person during business hours.

Obituaries not submitted by a funeral home must include the name and telephone number of the funeral home, crematory or other organization handling the arrangements, to verify the death. A copy of the death certificate is also acceptable.

When submitting an obituary, please include the desired date of publication. All obituaries should also include the deceased's last town of residence, connection to Sussex County (if no longer living locally) and date of death.

The cost of the obituary can range from $180 and up, depending on its length. Our staff can provide the exact cost upon request when the obituary is received.

The deadline for obituary submissions is 4:30 p.m. weekdays and 3 p.m. on weekends, on the day before the desired date of publication.

Please call 973-383-1500, extension 31899 with any questions.
