Dawn VanVleet

NEWTON - Dawn F. VanVleet, 78, of Newton, died Saturday, Nov. 30, 2013, at Newton Medical Center.

Born in West New York, Mrs. VanVleet lived in Newton for the past 30 years. She was the former secretary at St. Joseph R.C. Church in Newton, retiring in 2008 after 25 years of service. A member of St. Joseph R.C. Church in Newton, Mrs. VanVleet was a member of the Columbiettes. She also was a member of Prime Time Seniors in Newton.

The daughter of the late Edward and Louise Timmer, Mrs. VanVleet also was predeceased by her husband, Deacon Arthur H. VanVleet, on Oct. 21, 2009, and a son, Wayne VanVleet, in 1998. She is survived by two sons, Robert A. VanVleet and his wife, Donna, of Montville, and John M. VanVleet and his wife, Tina, of San Marcus, Calif.; one daughter, Sharon E. Eltzholtz, of Newton; eight grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and two sisters, Joyce Kastara of Virginia and Nancy McGrath of Brick Township.

Funeral services will begin at 11:45 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 5, at Smith-McCracken Funeral Home, 63 High St., Newton, followed by a 12:30 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial at St. Joseph R.C. Church in Newton. Interment will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery in Newton. Visitation will be held from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 4, at the funeral home.
