Eugene B. "Gene" Wefer

BERKELEY -- Eugene 'Gene' B. Wefer, 83, of the Silver Ridge Park North section of Berkeley Township, died, Monday Nov. 5, 2012, at home. Born and raised in Jersey City, he lived there until moving to Silver Ridge North 24 years ago. Gene was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He was a member of Teamsters Local 560 working as a truck driver for Red Star Express Lines, North Bergen, where he received the 30 million mile Safe Driver Award. He also owned and operated Gene's Band Stand Music.

He was an active member of many organizations including St. Michael's Regional High School Alumni; F&W New Bowling League, served as secretary, Jersey City; Silver Ridge Park North Mixed Bowling and Men's Bowling Leagues; and also Silver Ridge Park North Men's Club. Gene was also the trip coordinator for Silver Ridge Park North for many years. He was also a communicant usher at St. Maximilian Kolbe R.C. Church, Berkeley Township, and member of the Holy Name Society, and, most of all, he loved music and dancing. Gene summered in Point Pleasant Borough for many years.

Surviving is his loving wife of 59 years, Lucille (Petersen); son, Richard, and his wife, Susan, of Vernon; daughter, Jean, and her husband, Robert Franco, of Manalapan; two sisters-in-law, Frances Wefer and Miriam Rooney; one granddaughter, Allison; four grandsons, Daniel, Eric, Richard and Marc; and many loving nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend the viewing from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the Timothy E. Ryan Home for Funerals, 145 St. Catherine Blvd., Toms River. A Funeral Mass will be offered Monday, 11:30 a.m., at St. Maximilian Kolbe R.C. Church, Berkeley Township. Entombment to follow at St. Joseph's Cemetery, Toms River.
