Francis V. McKiernan

WARWICK, N.Y. - Francis V. McKiernan, 98, of Warwick, N.Y., formerly of Brooklyn, N.Y., and Highland Lakes, passed away Jan. 19, 2014, at home.

Born Aug. 15, 1915, in Brooklyn, N.Y., he was the son of the late Philip and Anna (Costello) McKiernan. He was married to the late Barbara (Clear) McKiernan (2013).

An Army veteran of World War II, he was a staff sergeant in the Pacific Theatre. He was a retired New York City Fireman with Engine 76 in Manhattan and 276 in Brooklyn, N.Y., and was a member of Holy Name and Emerald Society of the NYC Fire Department. He was the owner of McKiernan TV and Radio in Brooklyn, and was a member of Our Lady of Fatima Church in Highland Lakes.

He is survived by his daughter, Barbara Rodriguez and her husband, Andrew, of Hamburg; his son, Kevin McKiernan and his wife, Christine, of Warwick, N.Y.; his daughter, Theresa McKiernan, of Warwick, N.Y.; seven grandchildren, Marie McKiernan, Daniel McKiernan, Hugh Cringle and his wife, Dawn, James Cringle, Bridget Mac Lagger and her husband, Kevin, Megan Sumner and her husband, Bryan, and Sara Green; and two great-grandchildren, Hugh Morgan and Caitlin.

Visitation will be from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 22, at Lazear-Smith & Vander Plaat Memorial Home, 17 Oakland Ave., Warwick, N.Y. A Funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 23, at Our Lady of Fatima Church, 185 Breakneck Road, Highland Lakes, followed by interment in St. Stephens Cemetery, Warwick, N.Y.
