FREDON - Gladys Thonnerieux, 95, of the Hunts Pond section of Fredon Township, died Saturday, March 22, 2014, at Bristol Glen in Newton.
Born in Paterson on Dec. 4, 1918, Mrs. Thonnerieux moved to Unionville, N.Y., then lived in Sussex, where she graduated from Sussex High School. She moved to the Lake Mohawk section of Sparta in 1946 and moved to Newton in 1951. A summer resident of Hunts Pond for many years, she became a year-round resident of Hunts Pond in 1972.
The office manager of Ward's Flowers & Gifts for 20 years, Mrs. Thonnerieux retired in 1995. She and her late husband were the owners/operators of the former T&M Gas & Appliance in Andover Township from 1946 to 1964. She had also previously worked at the Sussex County Extension Service and was employed by Standard Oil of New Jersey from 1940 to 1946.
Mrs. Thonnerieux was a member of St. Joseph R.C. Church in Newton and was formerly active in BPW for many years.
The daughter of the late Mitchell H. and Julia (Quazza) Martin, Mrs. Thonnerieux also was predeceased by her husband, P. Anthony Thonnerieux, on Feb. 22, 1995; and her sister, Joan A. Martin, on Sept. 26, 1990. She is survived by two sons, Anthony P. Thonnerieux and his wife, Faith, of Fredon Township, and Michael C. Thonnerieux and his wife, Terry, of Lake Cumberland, Ky.; and one daughter, Patricia Dilts and her husband, Tom, of Hope. She also is survived by six grandchildren, Michael C. Thonnerieux and his wife, Sarah, Heather Forrey and her husband, Kevin, Amy Thonnerieux, Tracy Conn and her husband, Brooks, Jennifer Dilts-Anderson and her husband, Adam, and Lisa Ramos and her husband, Nick; as well as eight great-grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, March 28, at St. Joseph R.C. Catholic Church in Newton. Interment will follow in Newton Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 3 to 6 p.m. Thursday, March 27, at Smith-McCracken Funeral Home, 63 High St., Newton.
