SAN MARCOS, Calif. - Jane Spangenberg Gibson died Wednesday, Dec. 5, 2012, in California. She was born in Newton Memorial Hospital Jan. 22, 1935, daughter of Eva (Angle) and Roy James Spangenberg, of Layton.
Jane graduated from the Sandyston-Walpack Consolidated School in Layton and attended Newton High School until she and her mother moved to San Diego, Calif. After completing high school, she met and married Weldon L. (Chub) Gibson. They made their home in San Diego, where Jane worked in the county school system and Mr. Gibson served as captain of the San Diego Airport Fire Department. After retirement, they moved to San Marcos, Calif., where they remained until their death.
Mrs. Gibson was predeceased by her parents and two cousins, Lewis Ike, of Florida, and Lois Bascus, of Seattle, Wash. She is survived by her remaining Spangenberg cousins, Roy James and Sheela O'Brien, of Wyoming, Clara and Joseph Kane, of Layton, Joanne and Charles Widman, of Kendall Park, Ethel and Bill Smith, of Layton, Suzanne Eldridge, of Hampton, Dean and Bette Urban, of Branchville, Hixon Jr. and Sharon Spangenberg, of Layton, and Nan and Tom Horsfield, of Layton; two sons, Terry and Jeanette Gibson and Jeff and Heide Gibson, of California; and one granddaughter, Kaitlen.
