Mary Alice Lander

AVON, N.Y. -- Formerly of Vernon, N.J., Mary Alice Lander, 75, passed away on Tuesday, Nov. 20, 2012, from heart failure during a battle with cancer. Her husband, David Lander, whom she married in 1958, predeceased her.

Mary Alice (Peterson) was born in Elizabeth, N.J., grew up in Kenilworth, N.J., and lived in Bloomingdale, N.J., before moving to Vernon in 1973. In 2005, she moved to Avon, N.Y., to be near her daughter.

Mary Alice graduated from The Berkeley School and attended Upsala College. She was a troop leader and town leader of the Lenni Lenape Girl Scouts in New Jersey. She worked for the Playboy Resort and Country Club as executive secretary and public relations assistant and was a member of the XYZ Club in Avon. She loved to cook and entertain for family and friends, and loved animals, especially dogs.

She is survived by her daughter, Carol Ann Marcy, and her husband Christopher, of Geneseo, N.Y.; son, David W. Lander, of Franklin, N.J.; grandchildren, Alyssa N. Marcy, Justin C. Marcy and Shanna M. Lander; 11 nieces and nephews, 16 great-nieces and -nephews, and four great-great-nieces and -nephews.

Visitation will be held Saturday from 9:15 to 10:30 a.m., at St. Francis de Sales Church, Vernon. Her Funeral Mass will be held following calling hours at 10:30 a.m. Interment in Glenwood Cemetery, Vernon. Arrangements by Stephenson-Dougherty Funeral Home Inc., Avon N.Y.
