DEMPSEYTOWN, Pa. - On Monday, Dec. 16, 2013, the angels helped Nancy Spik, 72, of Dempseytown, Pa., formerly of New Jersey, pass away peacefully, ending her several bouts of cancer during the last 50 years.
Born Feb. 11, 1941, in Pittsburgh, Pa., she was a daughter of the late Frank and Helen Lloyd Arnold. She attended Robinson Township High School. On Sept. 21, 1956, she married Joseph Spik in Carnegie, Pa.
Mrs. Spik had a passion for helping people, especially as a retired occupation therapist assistant at Newton Memorial Hospital in Newton.
Upon retirement, she and her husband moved to the Dempseytown, Pa., area and Nancy was known to say that she would "never be bored" during retirement. She enjoyed many craft projects including folk art painting and cross-stitching. She also made numerous porcelain dolls,
candles, and especially enjoyed making baby quilts for possible great-grandchildren.
Nancy also enjoyed playing games on the computer and conversing with people all over the world.
In addition to her husband, Nancy is survived by three daughters, Cindy Fishinger and her husband, Randy, of Dempseytown, Pa., Donna McCloskey and her husband, Terry, of Stanhope, and Laurie Lasso and her husband, Ray, of Mount Bethel, Pa.; one sister, Janet Kibler, of Jacksonville, Fla.; two brothers, Glenn Arnold and his wife, Eileen, of Saylorsburg, Pa., and Jay Arnold and his wife, Teri, of New Stanton, Pa.; eight grandchildren, Todd, Dana, Darren, Brian, Daniel, Rebecca, Hannah and Dorothea; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents.
There will be no visitation. Funeral services will be held Saturday, Jan. 18, at 2 p.m. in the Oakland United Methodist Church, 1431 State Route 428, Oil City, Pa., with the Rev. Randy Kightlinger, VNA Chaplain, officiating.
