Phillip C. LaForge

FRANKFORD -- Phillip C. "Flip" LaForge, 71, passed away Saturday, July 19, 2014, at the Homestead Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center in Frankford.

Born in Sussex to the late Maynard and Emma (Dunn) LaForge, Phil lived in Sussex County for most of his life before moving to Florida in 1998 and then moving back to Newton in January 2014. He served in the United States Army during the Vietnam era.

Mr. LaForge was employed as a corrections officer for the New Jersey Department of Corrections for 28 years and worked at Annandale Correctional Facility before retiring from Mountainview Youth Correctional Facility in Montague.

Phil was known by many for his fun-loving and helpful nature; to know him was to be his friend.

Phil is survived by three children, Phillip C. LaForge II, of Newton, Lannette LaForge, of Andover, and Yvonne LaForge and her husband, Frank Ostlinger, of Sandyston; and three grandchildren, Marvin, Matilda and Hunter.

Memorial services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 2, at the Pinkel Funeral Home, 31 Bank St. (Route 23), Sussex. Friends may pay their respects to the family one hour prior to the service, from 10 to 11 a.m., at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations may be made to the Lakota Wolf Preserve, 89 Mount Pleasant Road, Columbia, NJ 07832.
