Robert E. Betts

NEWTON -- Robert E. Betts, 84, died Wednesday, Oct. 27, 2010, at Bristol Glen in Newton, following a long illness. Born in West Chester, Pa., he had lived for many years in Newton and then in Lynchburg, Va., before returning to Newton two years ago.

Son of the late George Marshal and Florence (Rapp) Betts, Robert proudly served in the U.S. Navy as a seaman first class during World War II. Mr. Betts enjoyed a long and successful career as an insurance agent for the Prudential Insurance Company in Newton. A devout Methodist, Robert was a trustee for the Blairstown Methodist Church and a member of the First United Methodist Church of Newton.

Robert was predeceased by his brother, George Betts, and is survived by his wife, Agnes Irene (Muchmore) Betts; his sons, Robert Ryan and his wife, Toni, of Pensacola, Fla., and David Edward and his wife, Sandra Betts, of Newton; his daughters, Cheryl Anne Rennick of Sebastopol, Calif., and Janice Edna Berry of Bangor, Pa.; seven grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.
