Rosemary Purdue

HAMBURG - Rosemary Purdue, 83, of Hamburg, formerly of Kinnelon, passed away May 21, 2014.

Born in Teaneck to Mary and John Powers, Rosemary graduated from Ladycliff College in 1952 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in mathematics. After her marriage that same year, she dedicated herself to more than two decades of lovingly raising her seven children. She then began her second career as a mortgage service representative for Suburban Savings and Loan and Chase Manhattan Bank where she excelled in that position until her retirement.

Rosemary's love of her Irish heritage was only surpassed by her love and devotion to family and friends. Her enormous pride in each of her children and grandchildren provided her an endless source of material to regale anyone she met with her colorful storytelling. True to her Irish roots, she had the "gift of gab." She also was an accomplished seamstress who drew great joy by creating personalized Halloween costumes for each of her children, a tradition that she continued with her 15 grandchildren. Her creativity did not end there. She showered many with handmade quilts, dresses, blankets and other mementos that all reflected her personal touch.

In addition to the joy of her children, Rosemary loved the company of her four siblings and close friends. She brought smiles to the faces of everyone that she met. She lived life to the fullest and had an unwavering optimism even in the face of the most challenging obstacles. Rosemary's spirit was infectious. She refused to accept limitations, encouraged everyone she met to set their goals high and celebrated every accomplishment, of those she loved.

Rosemary is survived by her devoted husband of 61 years, Robert L. Purdue Sr.; her loving children, Robert L. Purdue Jr., of Hamburg, Jeanne Hantson of Oak Ridge; Richard E. Purdue of Clayton, Calif., Donna L. Purdue of Lake Hopatcong, William T. Purdue of Wrentham, Mass., J. Michael Purdue of Hopatcong and Stephen P. Purdue of Rieglesville, Pa.; her grandchildren, Dante, Christopher, Jeffrey, Eric, Ashley, Vincent, William, Joseph, Madeleine, Sonja, Mary Rose, Daniel, Taylor, Collin and Olivia; her great grandchildren, Christian, Graham and Ainsley; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her siblings, John, Pat, Peggy and Kevin.
