CARBONDALE, Pa. - Vivian M. Trainor, 97, formerly of Waymart, Pa., died Thursday, June 25, 2013, at Carbondale Nursing Home, where she was a resident the past four years.
She was the wife of Joseph Patrick Trainor Sr., who died in 2003.
Born July 14, 1915, in Morris Plains, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Ella Rhing Waters.
She married her husband on Oct. 21, 1939, in East Orange, where they also resided. In 1956, they moved to Lake Neepaulin in Sussex, where they lived until 1991. During that time she was an active member of St. Monica's Parish and its Rosary Society. She was employed as a bookkeeper for various businesses throughout her life after attending Catherine Gibbs Secretarial School. After retiring, she moved to Waymart where she was a dedicated lector and member of the Altar and Rosary Society at St. Mary's Church.
Vivian was a devout Catholic. She was fun-loving and social and enjoyed playing cards, especially bridge. A loving and caring mother and grandmother, she will be deeply missed by her family.
She is survived by a son, Joseph Patrick Trainor Jr. and wife, Theresa, of Stewartsville, and their three children, Jonathon, Kaitlin and Zachery; a daughter, Gail Patricia Schell and husband, James, of Bear Creek, Pa., and their five children, Alycia, Adrienne, James, Gregory and Michael; and nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a sister and seven half-siblings.
The funeral service will be held Saturday, July 6, at 11 a.m. in St. Mary's Church, Waymart, with Mass celebrated by the Rev. Joseph Sitko, pastor. Interment at Arlington National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Macular Degeneration Foundation through Eyesight.org
