William Joseph Ujvary Jr.

BRANCHVILLE - William Joseph Ujvary Jr. (Joe the Carpet Man), 59, of Branchville, died Friday, Jan. 10, 2014, at Newton Medical Center.

Born in Quakertown, Pa., Mr. Ujvary grew up and lived in Phillipsburg and had lived in Branchville for the past 30 years. He was a 1973 graduate of Warren County Vo-Tech in Washington. Mr. Ujvary was self-employed at Joe's Custom Carpets in Branchville. An avid hunter and fisherman, he was the founder and president of the J.J. Rod & Gun Club of Branchville and the founder and president of the North Jersey Hog Hunters in Branchville.

The son of the late William Joseph and Ginny (Strawn) Ujvary, Mr. Ujvary is survived by his wife, Sandy (Norman); his son, Randy Ujvary, of Branchville; two stepdaughters, Jennifer Beatty, of Franklin, and Crystal Newhouse, of Paulinskill Lake; two grandchildren, Kira Tabaka and Hunter Newhouse; three sisters, Ginny Koehler and husband, Gary, of Pennsylvania, Linda Frey and husband, Lee, of New Jersey; and Wanda VanSyckle and husband, Robert, of Pennsylvania; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 16, at Wood Funeral Home, 16 Main St., Branchville. Interment will follow in Branchville Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 15, at the funeral home.
