William Martin Jr.

STILLWATER - William Martin Jr., 56, of Stillwater, died Tuesday, Jan. 8, 2013, at Newton Medical Center.

Born in Newton, Mr. Martin was a lifelong Sussex County resident. He was a United States Army veteran, having served in Germany. After his discharge from the Army, Mr. Martin worked for Mack-Wayne Plastics in Newton. He was currently employed as the production planner for Howmet Alloy in Dover. The president of the Stillwater Emergency Rescue Squad, Mr. Martin had served as captain and lieutenant of the squad. He also was a member of the New Jersey First Aid Council. An avid bowler, Mr. Martin bowled for many years in the Thursday night League at Sparta Lanes.

The son of the late William Martin Sr. and Marie Ann (Prtorich) Martin, Mr. Martin is survived by his wife, Theresa; his children, Heather Marie and Andy; his brothers, James Drew, and wife, Nora, of Stroudsburg, Pa., Robert Martin, of Atlanta, Ga., and Douglas Martin, and his partner, William, of Atlanta, Ga.; his sisters, Bonnie Cortright, and husband, Bill, of Winston-Salem, N.C., Linda Garrison, and husband, Rick, of Frankford, Ky., Linda McGrath, and husband, Jim, of Hillsville, Va., Colleen Dawson, and friend, Andy Simons, of Rockford, Tenn., Antonia Martin, and friend, Tom Wise, of Sparta, Ga.; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 12, at St. Joseph R.C. Church in Newton. Interment will follow in Stillwater Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday, Jan. 11, at Smith-McCracken Funeral Home, 63 High St., Newton.
