NEWTON -- Charles H. Middaugh, 93, of Newton, died Thursday, Nov. 29, 2012, at home. Born on March 13, 1919, in Dover, Mr. Middaugh lived in Dover and Effort, Pa., before moving to Newton. He married Arline Hart in 1938 at Sacred Heart Church in Dover. They had known one another since they were 5 years of age and share the same birthday. A World War II Army veteran, Mr. Middaugh was a 4th degree member of the Knights of Columbus. He was a civil engineer for the State of New Jersey until his retirement. The son of the late Charles H. and Nellie (Bradley) Middaugh, Mr. Middaugh was also predeceased by his daughter, Kathleen Shukailo. He is survived by his wife of 74 years, Arline (Hart) Middaugh; his son, Charles Middaugh, and wife, Patricia, of Effort, Pa.; three grandchildren, Charles Middaugh and wife, Kelly, Kimberly Woodhull and Jon, and Christine Kocienda and husband, Mark; three great-grandchildren, Jennifer and Jordan Middaugh and Louis Iozzi; and son-in-law, Stephen Shukailo. Funeral services will begin Monday, 10:15 a.m., at the Smith-McCracken Funeral Home, 63 High St., Newton, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial, 11 a.m., at St. Joseph R.C. Church in Newton.
