GARFIELD - Christine Miller, 48, of Garfield, died peacefully on Wednesday, Dec. 19, 2012, at Valley Hospital in Ridgewood. Born in Hoboken to Lawrence and Maryann Stevens (Derasmo), Christine graduated from Sparta High School and The Fashion Institute of Technology in New York City. With a flair for fashion, Christine's 20-year retail and merchandising career spanned the tri-state area where she managed stores selling women's designer clothing, jewelry and accessories. Most recently, she worked as a teacher's aide for the Garfield Board of Education Preschool in Garfield. After a fearless bout with metastatic breast cancer, Christine is survived by her husband, James, of 18 years; her precious 11-year-old son, Jack; her stepsons, Joshua and Matthew; her parents, Lawrence and Maryann; her mother-in-law, Florence Miller; her sisters, Tricia, and her husband, Mark, and Jennifer, and her husband, Brian; her sister-in-law, Deborah, and her husband, Jay. She was predeceased by her father-in-law, David Miller, in 2012. Christine was a loving and devoted aunt to Alexandra, Robert, Kenneth, Gabrielle, Daniel, Isabella and Mia. She will be remembered fondly by friends, relatives, business associates and the townspeople of Garfield who supported her faithfully throughout her illness. Visiting will be Friday, Dec. 21, 2 to 8 p.m., at Aloia Funeral Home, with a 7:30 p.m. chapel service. Private cremation.
