NEWTON - Edward P. Bodner, 83, of Newton, died at his home unexpectedly Tuesday, Sept. 4, 2012. Born in the Hurdtown section of Jefferson Township, he grew up and had lived many years in Lake Hopatcong until moving to Newton where he had resided for the past 60 years. Son of the late John and Anna (Kushman) Bodner, Edward was a graduate of the Wharton High School class of 1947. Mr. Bodner had worked more than 40 years until his retirement as a truck driver and mechanic for the Superior Carriers Kenvil. A loving and devoted husband, father and sibling, Edward enjoyed his work as well as anything mechanical. He enjoyed NASCAR and old movies; he will be missed by all who knew and loved him. Mr. Bodner was pre-deceased by three brothers, James, John and Paul Bodner; his sister, Anna Bakos; as well as his cherished cat, "Kitty Kat." Survivors include his beloved wife of 60 years, Jean M. (Shafer); his son, Gary E. Bodner, of Andover Township; and his daughter, Lori Bodner, of Hackettstown. Also surviving are his brother, Kenneth Bodner, of Morristown, as well as several nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held Friday, Sept. 7, from 6 to 9 p.m. in the Iliff-Ruggiero Funeral Home, 156 Main St. (Route 206) Newton. Entombment services will be private.
