SPARTA - Eileen Patricia McKenna Kivlen, 79, went home to the Lord suddenly at her home on Saturday, Oct. 26, 2013. Eileen was born Jan. 11, 1934, in Brooklyn, N.Y., to John McKenna and Margaret Agnes Murphy McKenna. She had resided in Sparta since 1957. Eileen was driven by a compelling thirst for knowledge. She had a quick wit and a ready smile. Eileen was active in the community, both in her volunteerism and her staunch support of children and the downtrodden. She served on the Sussex County Human Services Advisory Council and worked for the Department of Family and Children's Services in Newton. Eileen was a devout Catholic and communicant of Our Lady of the Lake Roman Catholic Church in Sparta. Eileen is survived by a son, John Kivlen, of Davie, Fla.; daughters and son-in-law, Eileen Gudelunas, of Little Falls, N.Y., Elizabeth Ann Seton Boylan, of Mt. Arlington, Maureen Kivlen, of Newton, and Catherine and Federico Arguelles, of Weston, Fla.; and her nine grandchildren, Kevin, Mary Elizabeth, Daniel, Anthony, Robert Jr., Catherine, Lillian, Maria and Federico. Family and friends are invited to visitation from 4 to 6 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 31, at Goble Funeral Home, 22 Main St., Sparta. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Friday, Nov. 1, at Our Lady of the Lake Roman Catholic Church in Sparta. Interment will follow in Sparta Cemetery.
