NEWTON - Emma Marie Peterson, 74, of Newton, died Thursday, Nov. 1, 2012, at the Valley View Care Center in Newton, following a long illness. Born in Pittsburgh, Pa., she had resided in Manhattan, N.Y., and Nutley for many years before moving to Newton in 1998. Daughter of the late John and Mary (Silk) Patrick, Emma had worked many years as a secretary for the Hoffmann-LaRoche Corp. in Nutley, until her retirement in 1982. She enjoyed playing golf and was a former member of the Forrest Hills Field Club in Bloomfield. Emma also enjoyed gardening, travel and her pets. A former parishioner of St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church in Nutley, she also attended Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Roman Catholic Church in Swartswood. Survivors include her husband, Alfred Peterson Jr.; her daughter, Susan, and her husband, David Machacek; as well as her grandchildren, Dawn and David Machacek. Emma also is survived by her cousin, Steven, and his wife, Catherine Silk. A funeral Mass will be held Tuesday, Nov. 6, at 10 a.m. in Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Roman Catholic Church, 203 Swartswood Road, Swartswood, NJ 07877. Visitation will be held Monday, Nov. 5, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. in Iliff-Ruggiero Funeral Home, 156 Main St. (Route 206), Newton.
