VERNON â€" Francis â€œBuddyâ€ Colligan, 87, passed away Saturday, Nov. 30, 2013, at Andover Sub-Acute and Rehabilitation Center in Andover. Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., Mr. Colligan had been a resident of Vernon for the past 25 years and prior to that had resided in Staten Island, N.Y. For 25 years, Mr. Colligan was employed as a truck shifter with United Parcel Service at their New York City terminal, retiring in 1988. He was a proud veteran of the United States Navy serving his country during World War II. In his spare time he loved the time he would spend with his daughter and grandchildren doing jigsaw puzzles. He was an avid New York Mets fan and he enjoyed the trips he would take to the Atlantic City casinos. He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Mary â€œMarionâ€ Colligan, in 1986, as well as his parents and a niece, Regina Sussina. He is survived by his daughter, Maureen Moscato and her husband, Michael, of Vernon; three grandchildren, Melissa Garling of Hamburg, Michelle Moscato and Lisa Moscato, both of Vernon; a great-granddaughter, Gianna Garling; and a niece, Teresa Cobanchi. Relatives and friends are invited to attend his funeral at 9 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 5, at Ferguson-Vernon Funeral Home, 241 Route 94, Vernon, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at Saint Francis De Sales Church, Route 517, Vernon. Interment to follow at Glenwood Cemetery in Vernon. Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 4.
