Jeffrey Daly Obituary

NEWTON - Jeffrey M. Daly, 67, of Newton, got in the TARDIS on June 17, 2013, and has left for places and times unknown.

Born in Rahway and raised in Clark, Mr. Daly graduated from Rutgers College and Rutgers Graduate School of Social Work. He was employed by the County of Sussex, Division of Social Services/Welfare, from 1969 to 2007, retiring as county director. Growing older, but never deciding on what he wanted to do when he "grew up," Mr. Daly had also worked part-time as a radio news announcer "rock jock" and as an Isshinryu karate instructor.

Surviving is the rest of humanity, including his father, Raymond Daly, of Newton and Toms River; his wife of 45 years, Marion Lee (Jurman), whom he met in 1964 when he had the good sense to take Latin classes on the then all-female Douglass College campus. Two sons also survive him: Michael (MIT '94 EE) and wife, Corinne, of Trout Lake, Washington, who got out of New Jersey and now has reasonable property taxes, no state income tax, and legal marijuana; Drew (Richard Stockton '01 ES) and wife, Michelle, of Hopatcong; plus three grandchildren: Nadija, Katya and Anders. Surviving siblings are Brian Daly, of Westfield, and Jill Jacobus, of Bluffton, S.C., and several nieces and nephews.

Expressions of sympathy may be made to MoveOn.org, or any other non-profit organizations that Republicans term "Socialist" and that seek to keep banks, Wall Street, insurance companies, politicians and other traditionally greedy and untrustworthy groups in line.

A memorial visitation will be held Friday, June 21, from 2 to 5 p.m., at Smith-McCracken Funeral Home, 63 High St., Newton. A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, June 22, from noon to 5 p.m., at Jeff's home, 10 Elm St., Newton.

I'm so sorry, Lee. He sounds like one heck of a guy, and I'm sure that his going, in his Tardis, for places unknown, will leave a huge, gaping hole in your life.
PS. Over the years, I've had some "issues" with MoveOn, so I'll just leave an extra big "tip" to Act Blue, the next time I donate to a "soshialist" candidate of my choice. Hope you don't mind.
May lacy peace be with you. T

I met Jeff in 1977, when he worked the FM side at WNNJ on Sunday mornings and I was hired to work the AM side. He helped a nervous college kid "learn the (professional)ropes." I will never forget his kindness to me back then. We also worked together in radio, years later. He was always the consummate professional who had great taste in music, a wry sense of humor, and a twinkle in his eye. His obit truly captured his spirit. My sincere condolences to Lee and the rest of his loving family.

My deepest sympathy to all Jeff's family. I knew him from the Sussex County Council of Services Agencies and like all members who knew him, I admired his kindness and his compassion for our community. These qualities were honored by our executive board in 2004 when he was given the Distinguished Service Award by the CSA. This community will miss him and the dedicated work he is famous for!
