Joseph Kane Obituary
SANDYSTON -- Joseph Kane, 78, of the Layton section of Sandyston, died Tuesday, Jan. 9, 2018, at home.

Born in Kingston, Pa., Joseph lived in Montclair from 1941 to 1949, Rockaway Neck from 1950 to 1952 and Caldwell Township (now Fairfield) from 1952 to 1960. He was a 1956 graduate of Grover Cleveland High School in Caldwell. Joseph proudly served active duty in the United States Army from 1956 to 1959 and inactive duty from 1959 until his honorable discharge in 1962. He resided in Wharton from 1962 until moving to Layton in 2004.

A delivery specialist for United Parcel Service, Joseph retired in 1991 after 30 years of service. He also worked as a driver for Longo Industries from 1990 until his retirement in 2004.

An avid Democrat, Joseph was a member of the Montague and Sandyston Seniors. He was also a member of Branchville American Legion Post 157.

The son of the late Joseph E. and Lillian (Ritts) Kane, Joseph was also predeceased by his wife, Clara, on Feb. 12, 2017. He is survived by his daughter, Cheryl Flood and husband, Jerry; his son, Michael Mulligan and wife, Vicki; his children, Joseph, Michael, William and Tara; his 11 grandchildren; his two great-grandchildren; his sisters, Lynda, Joyce and Nita; as well as several nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 13, at the Wood Funeral Home, 16 Main St., Branchville. A memorial visitation will be held Saturday from 2-4 p.m., with an American Legion service at 4 p.m.
