HAMBURG - Joseph M. Marano, 87, died Friday, June 14, 2013, at Barn Hill Care Center in Newton. Mr. Marano was born in Hoboken Aug. 12, 1925, and had been a resident of Hamburg for the past 23 years. Mr. Marano was a delivery driver for Wonder Bread of Carlstadt. Upon his retirement he worked as a starter at Great Gorge Golf Club in Vernon. He was a U.S. Navy World War II veteran, serving from 1943-1945. He served two terms as a councilman for Hamburg and was active with the Republican Party as well as a former commissioner of the Sussex County Municipal Utilities Authority (SCMUA). Mr. Marano was a sports official on both the high school and college levels and was an avid N.Y. Yankees and N.Y. Giants fan as well as a Frank Sinatra admirer. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by two brothers, Anthony and Frank Marano. He is survived by his wife, Selma Marano; children, Frank Marano, Annette Marano, Joseph Marano and Michael Marano; stepson, David Maucieri and his wife, Amy; brother, Nicholas Marano; grandchildren, Lori Ann, Jessica, Frank, Matthew and Jesse; as well as a great-grandson, Elias. A funeral service will be held at 8:30 p.m. Wednesday, June 19, at Ferguson-Vernon Funeral Home, 241 Route 94, Vernon. Private cremation will follow with burial of cremains at Glenwood Cemetery, Vernon, at 11 a.m. Friday, June 21. Friends may call at the funeral home from 2 to 4 and 7 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday.
