SPARTA - Joseph Misukonis passed into eternal life on Saturday, July 27, 2013, at St. Clare's Hospital, Denville, with his loving family by his side. He was 68. Joseph was born in Newark to Vincent and Helen (Miscavage) Misukonis. He resided in Sparta for the past 25 years, formerly of Parsippany. Joseph served his country proudly in the U.S. Marine Corps. He was employed for 25 years with the Essex County Corrections Department, retiring in 1995 at the rank of sergeant. He was a member of the Essex County Police Benevolent Association and a communicant of Saint Kateri Tekakwitha R.C. Church, Sparta. Joseph is survived by his beloved wife of 30 years, Barbara (Ciborski); two daughters, Nichole Lucena (Milton), of Cliffwood Beach and Christine Kavanagh (John), of Byram, and his son, Michael Misukonis and his fiancée, Megan Powers, of Boston, Mass.; a brother, Vincent Misukonis (Annette) of Union; and many loving family members. Family and friends are invited Tuesday, July 30, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m., to Goble Funeral Home, 22 Main St., Sparta. There will be Marine Corps honors Tuesday at 7:30 p.m., followed by an 8 p.m., memorial service at the funeral home.
