FRANKFORD - Josephine "Josie Jay" Laterza, 79, of Frankford, died peacefully Tuesday, May 20, 2014, at the Homestead Rehabilitation and Health Care Center, Frankford Township. Born Aug. 26, 1934, in Bellville, she had lived there many years before becoming a SCARC Group Home resident in Branchville. Daughter of the late Joseph and Frances (Martucci) Laterza, Josephine was a loving, caring woman who enjoyed traveling with her mother and friends at SCARC. She was an active resident who enjoyed arts and crafts, knitting and especially singing. She had a good sense of humor and loved to laugh. Survivors include her sisters, Carolyn L. Hoffman, of Houston, Texas, and Frances D. and her husband, Edwin VanOrden, of Corpus Christi, Texas; her three nieces; and one nephew; as well as her dear friend Jane Hasenbalg. The family would like to send their most heartfelt thanks to the SCARC organization for helping to give Josephine a very high quality of life. A Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be held 1 p.m. Friday, May 23, at St. Joseph R.C. Church, Halstead Street, Newton. Burial will immediately follow in the St. Joseph Church Cemetery, Newton. Visitation will be held Friday morning from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in Iliff-Ruggiero Funeral Home, 156 Main St. (Route 206), Newton.
