ORLAND, Maine - On Dec. 12, 2012, Judith (Judi) B. Chymiy, of Orland, Maine, formally of South Orange/Maplewood (30 years) and Frankford Township (18 years), lost her long and courageous battle with diabetes. Feisty and funny, Judi was a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend. She was born April 7, 1946, to Edmund and Ethel Berry in Newark. Judi loved to knit and family and friends looked forward to every holiday season to receive a pair of the many slippers she crafted, all topped with cheerful pompoms. An omnivorous reader who devoured books, particularly historical novels, she also was a fan of vintage black-and-white movies with a vast collection of favorites. Judi was an avid student of Civil War history and looked forward to her many trips to the Gettysburg battlefields. Travels to England inspired Judi and her husband, Bill, to name their Lake Owassa home "Moss Grove Cottage" after her favorite English inn. She loved the solitude and peace of her country homes, first in the mountains of Sussex County and then in Maine, both of which blossomed with profusions of beautiful flowers and plants, thanks to her artistic eye and gardening skills. Judi leaves to cherish her memory her childhood sweetheart and husband of 47 years, Bill; daughter, Julie Genovese; son, Michael and daughter-in-law, Billie Joe; grandchildren, Brittany, Victoria, Taylor, Madison, Avery and Ryan; sister-in-law, Patty Zettas, of Squim, Wash.; and brother-in-law, James Chymiy, of Cordova, Tenn. She will be deeply missed.
