HERNANDO, Fla. -- Mr. Laurence F. Downes, age 82, of Hernando, Fla., passed away peacefully on Thursday. Nov. 22, 2012, in Hernando. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at The Church of Saint David the King, 1 New Village Road, Princeton Junction, N.J. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday at 10 a.m. at The Church of Saint David the King. Interment will follow at Holy Cross Burial Park, South Brunswick. Online condolences may be sent to matherhodge.com. Larry was born on Jan. 2, 1930, in Queens, N.Y., and was the son of the late William and Mary (McGowan) Downes. He was an Army veteran who served during the Korean War. He was also the president of Fulfillment Service Incorporated, a distribution company in New Jersey that he founded, and former president of the Fulfillment Management Association. Larry moved from Vernon, N.J., to Hernando, Fla., in 2005. His hobbies included playing Sudoku and the lottery. He was an avid fan of the New York Rangers. Larry was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, the American Legion and Saint Scholastica Catholic Church, Lecanto, Fla. He was preceded in death by his brother, Thomas, and his sisters, Mary and Nancy. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Helen (Hart), of Hernando; two sons, Laurence M. and his wife, Carol, of Princeton Junction, N.J., and Terence and his wife, Corrine, of Canyon Country, Calif.; and daughter Susie of Hernando, Fla. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Tom and his wife, Kate, Richie and Meg, Elizabeth and Alexandra; two great-grandsons, Rafe and Jake; and his beloved dogs, Daisy and Charlie.
