CHERRYSTONE, Va. - Lila Hotalen Schmidt, 88, passed away Tuesday, July 31, 2012, at Heritage Hall Healthcare in Nassawadox, Va. Born in Sandyston Township on June 24, 1924, to Lesler and Wreath Hotalen, she resided in Cherrystone, Va., with her husband of 64 years, F. Victor Schmidt. Lila was a member of Holmes Presbyterian Church, Daughters of the American Revolution, and Citizens for a Better Eastern Shore. In addition to her beloved husband, she is survived by her loving brother and sisters, Harvey Hotalen, of Milford, Pa., Louise Lehr, of Penn Yan, N.Y., Virginia Pittenger, of Allamuchy, Patricia Dunbar, of Lady Lake, Fla., and Irene Greco, of Dover; her sisters-in-law, Josephine Schmidt, of Spring Valley, Calif., and Evelyn Hotalen, of Sparta; her brother-in-law, Eugene Greco, of Mount Olive; as well as many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. Lila was predeceased by one brother, Ernest Hotalen; one sister, Eleanor Greco; brothers-in-law, Robert Schmidt, Walter (Butch) Dunbar, Herbert Pittenger and Francis Greco; and sister-in-law, Joan Hotalen. To honor her request, no funeral will be held. Memorial services will be held in Virginia and New Jersey at a later date with interment in the Layton Cemetery in Sandyston Township.
