SPARTA - Lois R. Olsen, 84, of Sparta, went to the Lord on March 13, 2014. Lois was born in Pocatella, Idaho, and settled in Sparta in 1968. She taught piano, flute and the organ from her home for many years. Lois played lead flute in the Santa Maria Symphony and was the organist at Picatinny Arsenal from 1969-2011. Her musical career allowed her to meet many famous musicians, including her late friend Roger Williams. Along the way Lois received many awards for music but still found time for her other favorite hobbies: skiing and golf. She is predeceased by her beloved husband, Russell N. Olsen. Lois is survived by her devoted son, Dirk Olsen and his wife, Marianne, of Palisade, Colo.; granddaughter, Kaeley Seibert and her husband, Jack, of Maricopa, Ariz.; and grandson, Cory Olsen and his wife, Monica, of Aurora, Colo. She also is survived by her great-grandson, Everett Russell Olsen; sisters-in-law, Betty June Rhodes and Carole Cullen; and two nephews and three nieces. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 18, at the Sparta First Presbyterian Church, 32 Main St., Sparta, NJ 07871. Interment will follow at Sparta Cemetery.
