VERNON - Louis Michael Dekmar, 79, died unexpectedly on Wednesday, March 6, 2013, at his residence. He was born to Balaz and Mary Dekmar in Ogdensburg, where he was a lifelong resident before moving to Vernon 28 years ago.

Mr. Dekmar served with the United States Navy and then worked as a pressmen for Hercules Powder Company, Kenville, for many years before retiring in 1984. He worked as a part-time police officer in Ogdensburg from 1968-1976 and was a member of the Sgt. Francis M. Glynn American Legion Post 132, Franklin, Wallkill Valley V.F.W. Post 441, Vernon, and enjoyed tinkering with mechanicals, enjoying sports and politics.

Mr. Dekmar was predeceased by his brother, Charles Dekmar, and was the devoted father of Louis M. Dekmar Jr. of LaGrange, Ga., Donna J. Savage of Hamburg, and Daniel J. Dekmar of Deland, Fla. Dear brother of Frank Dekmar of Fort Pierce, Fla., Paul Dekmar of Nashville, Tenn., Alex Dekmar of Denville, Irene Levonick of Sparta and Mary Chmile of Princeton. Cherished by six grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
