NEWTON - Manuel A. Almirante, 60, of Newton, died Thursday, Dec. 15, 2011 at Morristown Medical Center. Born in Argao Cebu Philippines, Manuel came to the United States in 1994 and lived there for several years until moving to Newton in 2003. Son of the late Antonio and Antonina (Alvarez), Almirante was a graduate of the University of Visayas Cebu, receiving his bachelor's degree in commerce. Manuel also attended three years at the university, majoring in law. A loving and devoted husband, father and brother, he enjoyed classical music and playing tennis. Mr. Almirante was working as a nursing assistant for the Sussex County Homestead in Frankford. Survivors include his beloved wife of 27 years, Jocelyn (Miranda) Almirante; his loving daughters, Mailyn and Jywel Almirante, of Newton; as well as his nine siblings in the Philippines. Visitation will be held Saturday, Dec. 17, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 8 p.m. Funeral services will immediately follow the visitation at 8 p.m. at Iliff-Ruggiero Funeral Home, 156 Main St. (Rt. 206), Newton.
