HAMPTON - Marian Emmons McKeown, 97, died peacefully of natural causes on Tuesday, June 4, 2013. Born Marian Frances Emmons on Feb. 21, 1916, in Halsey, Hampton Township, she led a life devoted to education. She served on the Hampton Township and Kittatinny Regional School Boards for more than 30 years and was honored by having the Hampton Township elementary school named for her. She was co-proprietor of McKeown's Restaurant located on Culver Lake, a local landmark for more than 50 years. She is predeceased by her husband, Charles F. McKeown; and daughter, Jean McKeown Harper. Mrs. McKeown is survived by her son, John McKeown and his wife, Maria Teresa; her grandchildren, Elena Marian McKeown, Elizabeth Harper Gray, Lawton Emmons Harper and Jennifer Harper Ellison; and seven great-grandchildren A private graveside ceremony was held Saturday, June 15, and a memorial service will be announced at a future date. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Marian Emmons McKeown Elementary School, for math enrichment programs, 1 School Road, Newton, NJ 07860.
