BRANCHVILLE - Mathew J. Wingle III, age 76, passed away on Tuesday, April 28, 2015, at Newton Medical Center, while surrounded by his loving
children.
Born and raised in the Passaic and Clifton area to the late Mathew J. Wingle Jr. and Dorothy (Rink) Wingle, he lived in Clifton before moving to Sussex County in 1972. He served in the U.S. Army. Mr. Wingle was the co-owner of the former Wingle Brothers Construction, had owned and operated Sussex Garden Center, and owned and operated Cedar Ridge Nursery in Frankford before retirement.
He patented various plants that exist in many arboretums around the U.S. and Europe. He loved the outdoors and was an avid hunter and fisherman and enjoyed teaching children the outdoor sports. His passions were training AKC field trial competition dogs and he was a member of the Hudson Highland Retriever Association. He was also a member of Ducks Unlimited, the National Wild Turkey Federation, the NRA, and was dedicated to the Wounded Warrior Project. Mr. Wingle was a member of AA and just celebrated his 47th year sober. He was a positive role model and mentor to many. He was also a boat builder, crafting custom cedar strip canoes and duck- hunting boats. He was passionate about his children and his grandchildren and was extremely proud of his family.
He was predeceased by his brother, Richard Wingle Sr. in 2011. Mr. Wingle is survived by his son, Mathew J. Wingle IV, of Frankford; his two daughters, Beth Wingle and her fiance, Vince Settineri, of Liberty, and Diana Wingle George and her husband, Greg, of Abingdon, Md.; and his grandchildren, Mat, Kevin, Kylie, Kendyl and Chase.
Friends may pay their respects to the family on Saturday, May 2, from 2 to 5 p.m. at Pinkel Funeral Home, 31 Bank St. (Route 23), Sussex. Memorial services will follow at 5 p.m. at the funeral with the Rev. Msgr. John V. Boland, officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to the Wounded Warrior Project, 4899 Belfort Road, Suite 300, Jacksonville, Fla. 32256.
