WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Michael "Mick" Patrick Sekelsky, 53, unexpected passed away Friday, Jan. 11, 2013, at Forsyth Memorial Hospital, in Winston Salem, N.C.

He was born May 2, 1959, in Groton, Conn., to Navy Chief Michael Martin and Ann Dolan Sekelsky. As a child of a Navy Chief, Mick was offered the adventure and opportunity of living in some fascinating places such as Key West, Fla., and Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. The family later made Ogdensburg their home. While there, Mick attended Franklin High School in Sussex County and was actively involved in about every extracurricular activity that the school offered. He moved to North Carolina as part of the RJR/Nabisco merger. It was there that he met the love of his life, Laura Poindexter.

Mick graduated from High Point University. At the time of his death, he was employed as an IT manager at Inmar. He was a member of Centenary United Methodist Church where he facilitated a Bible study program and taught elementary Sunday School for a number of years. Mick was genuine in character, always putting others before himself. He was an instant friend to everyone that he met, staunchly devoted to his family, and had the rare quality of seeing the good and promise in everyone. He loved and was loved dearly. He will be missed more than words can express.

Mick was preceded in death by his father and his infant son, Noble Poindexter Sekelsky. He is survived by his mother, Ann; his devoted wife of 20 years, Laura Poindexter Sekelsky; his sons, Michael Patrick Sekelsky II and Charles Maxwell "Max" Sekelsky; his mother-in-law, Gladys McManaway Poindexter; his brothers, Thomas Sekelsky and wife, Susan Benz, Andrew Sekelsky and fiancée, Carmela Marsilla, James Sekelsky and wife, Julie Bailey, their children Kyle, Hannah and Alec; brother-in-law, Edwin Poindexter, wife Susan, their children Justin and Erin; and his brother-in-law, Alan Poindexter and his girlfriend, Sue Burkhart.
