NEWTON - Myrtis G. Culver, 84, of Branchville, died Wednesday, May 8, 2013, at Barn Hill Care Center in Newton. Born in Franklin, Mrs. Culver was a longtime resident of Branchville. Mrs. Culver was a secretary for Selective Insurance prior to her marriage and raising her family; she returned to work at Selective Insurance doing clerical work until her retirement. She enjoyed classical music, collecting antiques, and loved cats. Mrs. Culver was a very active swimmer and enjoyed water activities; she also was very passionate about her needlework. Mrs. Culver was a member of the Branchville United Methodist Church, and she was active in woman's affairs during her early years. She adored her family and grandchildren. The daughter of the late Henry and Ruth (Stanaback) Gilbert, Mrs. Culver also was predeceased by her brother, Calvin Gilbert. She is survived by her husband of 64 years, Burt Culver; two daughters, Connie Cannavale, of Branchville, and Cathy Gardner and husband, Thomas, of Frankford Township; grandchildren, Gilbert Gardner, Garrett Gardner, Dominic Cannavale, Sarah Cannavale and Beatrice Cannavale. A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 11, at Wood Funeral Home, 16 Main St., Branchville. Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, May 10, at the funeral home. Interment will be in North Hardyston Cemetery following the service.
