Robert Abramowitz Obituary

NETCONG -- Robert Alexander Abramowitz, beloved husband and father, formerly of North Bergen, passed into eternal rest on Sunday, Dec. 12, 2010. He was at home in the comforting care of his wife of 61 years, Dorothy, and his children. He was 82 years old.

Born to Alexander Walter Abramowitz and Ida (Mueller) Abramowitz of Union City, Robert was the eldest of five children. He was a Naval veteran, traveling to the Antarctic with Admiral ByrdÕs 1945 expedition. He was a faithful deacon of Grove Reformed Church and a past master of Euclid Lodge No. 136 F&AM and Shriners Salam Temple. He worked as a knitting mechanic for 25 years and later worked for New York Waterway.

He was predeceased by his parents and grandson, Daniel Dustin. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his siblings, Alan, Joan Haight, Carol DÕAngelo and Audrie Disco; his children, Robert Alexander II and his wife Laureen, Eric Otto and his wife Mary, and Linda Ann Yaeger and her husband James D.; his grandchildren, Robert Alexander III, Cyrus Kelly, Jennifer Malatesta, Robert McGuire, Jessilynn Yaeger-Stolz and James F.; and great-grandchildren, Damien and Leila Kelly.

According to his wishes, he was cremated. A memorial service is to be held at the First Presbyterian Church of Stanhope on Saturday, May 21, at 11 a.m.

The family cannot express enough their appreciation for the comfort and care received during the last two years from the Karen Ann Quinlan Hospice Foundation, 99 Sparta Ave., Newton, NJ 07860, and the Stanhope/Netcong American Legion Ambulance, 22 Linden Ave., Stanhope, NJ 07874. For those desiring, memorial donations may be made to either organization.
