VERNON -- Robert D. Barber, 74, of the Highland Lakes section of Vernon, died peacefully Wednesday, Oct. 6, 2010 at Newton Memorial Hospital. Born in Passaic, he resided many years in Garfield before moving to Vernon in 1974.

Son of the late Harold and Anna (Kalas) Barber, Robert served in the U.S. Air Force for 21 years, retiring as a tech sergeant E-6. After his retirement he worked as a manager for the family business, 'All in the Family Restaurant,' in Clifton. A devout Catholic, Robert was a longtime member and past commander of the Wallkill Valley VFW Post 8441.
Predeceased by a son, Wayne D., in 1980, as well as his brother, Harold 'Skip' Barber in 2009, Robert is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Elizabeth A. (Parent) Barber. Also surviving are his sons, Tim and his wife, Ann, of Honesdale, Pa., Robin of Brooklyn, N.Y., Troy of New York, N.Y., Brian and his wife, Gia, of Mahopac, N.Y., and Shawn Barber of Highland Lakes; his daughters, Tammie and her husband, Jeffrey Horsfield, of Culver Lake, Elizabeth and her husband, Kevin Faria, of Sparta, and Cynthia and her husband, Michael McKeon, of Colorado Springs, Colo.; 17 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
A memorial Funeral Mass will be held Saturday at 1 p.m. at Our Lady of Fatima R.C. Church, Breakneck Road, Highland Lakes, immediately followed by a life celebration in the Our Lady of Fatima Fr. Busch Hall.
