HARDYSTON - William R. Seland, 64, died suddenly on Sunday, Dec. 30, 2012, at Saint Clare's Hospital in Sussex. Born in East Orange, he was the son of the late William H. and Gertrude (Rizzi) Seland. Bill had been a resident of Stockholm since 1977. He was a combat veteran of the United States Army serving during the Vietnam War. He worked for the United Sates Postal Service for 25 years and was the postmaster of Vernon Township, retiring from that position in 2002. He adored his grandchildren and loved the time he would spend with them. In his spare time he enjoyed watching sports and was an avid Yankees and Dallas Cowboys fan. He also enjoyed following the world of politics. He is survived by his loving wife, Virginia (Gormley) Seland, of Stockholm; daughters, Sara Vybihal, and her husband, Jeff, of Vernon, and Samantha Nolan, and her husband, Tim, of Colorado Springs, Colo.; a son, Steven Seland, of Stockholm; grandchildren, Adam Vybihal and Charlene Nolan; a sister, Deborra Carlson, of Thousand Oaks, Calif.; along with a niece, Jennifer Carlson, and nephew, Michael Bosland. Relatives and friends are invited to attend his funeral Friday, Jan. 4, at 8 p.m. at Ferguson-Vernon Funeral Home, 241 Route 94, Vernon. Final disposition will be held privately. Visitation will be held 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
