SANDYSTON - Mary H. Gibbons, 95, of Hainesville, died Sunday, Feb. 16, 2014, in Compassionate Care Hospice at St. Clare's Hospital in Dover following a long illness. Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., Mrs. Gibbons resided in Hainesville for the past 44 years. She worked as a teacher's aide at the Sandyston Walpack Consolidated School for many years and also worked as a nurse's aide at the Sussex County Homestead. A member of St. Thomas the Apostle Church, Mrs. Gibbons was a member of the Columbiettes. She was a longtime member of the Minisink Garden Club and was very proud of her Irish heritage. The daughter of the late George and Mary (Gribber) Harrigan, Mrs. Gibbons also was predeceased by her husband, William Gibbons, in December 1976; a daughter, Marie Valleroy; and a brother, Samuel Harrigan. She is survived by her children, Blanche M. Casey, of Centereach, N.Y., William J. Gibbons Jr., of Brooklyn, N.Y., Michael P. Gibbons, of Uniondale, N.Y., and Isabel Roberts and husband, Frederick, of Hainesville. She also is survived by her grandchildren, William Dowdell, Brendan Roberts and wife, Shiela, Christie Roberts, Timothy Roberts and wife, Jaclyn, Craig Gibbons, John Valleroy and Lucas Valleroy; as well as five great-grandchildren. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 18, at St. Thomas the Apostle Church in Sandyston. Interment will be held in Hainesville Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday, Feb. 17, at the church. Memorial donations may be made to St. Thomas the Apostle Church, 210 Route 206 North, Sandyston, NJ 07826.
