Obituary Condolences

NEWTON - Helen L. Comiskey, 86, of the Paulinskill Lake section of Newton, died Wednesday, April 16, 2014.

Born in New Brunswick, Mrs. Comiskey lived and raised her family in the Lake Tranquility area, before retiring to Dingmans Ferry, Pa. She had lived in Newton the past six years.

Mrs. Comiskey was a homemaker, and she served many years on the Green Township Board of Education. She was an avid artist in watercolors, oils and woodworking. She was an animal advocate. Mrs. Comiskey enjoyed bringing her animals to visit the many patients at local nursing homes.

The daughter of the late Richard and Corynne (Callaway) Janssen, she also is predeceased by her husband, Frank (December 2007), and son in-law, Don Jackowski (April 2008). Mrs. Comiskey is survived by two daughters, Karen Jackowski of Sparta and Leslie Burd, and husband, Jay, of Stillwater; five grandchildren, April Santangelo of West Milford, Kate Burd of Stillwater, Zachary Jackowski of Boston, Mass., Alli Burd, of Boston, Mass., and Cory A. Jackowski, of Rockaway Township; and three great-grandchildren, Jake, Ashley and Tyler Santangelo.

Services are private. Helen L. Comiskey Arrangements are under the direction of Smith-McCracken Funeral Home, 63 High St., Newton.
