SPARTA - Lee W. Elsinghorst, 73, of Sparta, passed away Sunday, July 13, 2014, at home after a brief illness.

Lee was born in West Allis, Wisc., and shortly after graduating with a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Wisconsin, he moved to the East Coast to help start up Wickhen Products in Huguenot, N.Y. Over the course of 30 productive years, he had become president and part owner of the business, helping to develop it into a company that had more than 100 employees, and then was able to enjoy an early retirement. He embraced his retired life with as much passion as his "work" years, enjoying travel with his family as well as endless projects in the home and yard upkeep, in addition to fixing whatever was needed.

He served two years on the school board in Montague, where he and family lived for more than 10 years, before moving to Sparta. Lee loved seeing Broadway shows in New York and eating gourmet meals, especially during two wonderful trips to France. He also enjoyed playing golf with his buddies and enjoyed alpine and cross country skiing, as well as tennis and biking with his family. Many happy winters were spent walking the beach in Hilton Head, S.C.

Lee was predeceased by his father, John, who came from Germany in his early 20s and soon met and married his mother, Laura, and his "special" older brother, Jackie, as well as his daughter, Cara Lynn, who died at birth. He is survived by his beloved wife, Rose; son, Blake John and his wife, Lindsey, in Crossville, Tenn.; grandson, Ashton Lee; daughter, Brooke Leanne, in New York, N.Y.; and his sister, Joan Miller and her family in Milwaukee, Wisc. Lee will long be remembered for his devotion to his family and his caring and wisdom in solving so many of life's challenges large and small. Donations may be made in his memory to the Karen Ann Quinlan Hospice Charitable Foundation, 99 Sparta Road, Newton, NJ 07860; or Melanoma Research Foundation, 1411 K Street, Suite 800, Washington, D.C. 20005. Arrangements are under the care of Goble Funeral Home, Sparta.
