Marion A. Finnerty

PORT JERVIS, N.Y. - Mrs. Marion A. Finnerty, 95, of Port Jervis, N.Y., a lifetime resident of the area, died Friday, July 18, 2014, at Bon Secours Community Hospital.

Born Sept. 26, 1918, in Sparrowbush, N.Y., the daughter of the late John and Elizabeth Conkling Tropeano, Marion graduated from Port Jervis High School and was married in 1937 to the late Joseph Finnerty. Marion worked as an assembler for Channel Master in Huguenot, N.Y., and later for Spark-O-Matic in Milford, Pa., where she retired. She was a member of the Port Jervis Senior Citizens Group.

A family statement read, "Mom was always a hardworking woman who raised five children while she was working. She was both Mom and Dad. She loved reading, doing crossword puzzles, knitting, board games and TV. She was the best mom, grandmother, sister, aunt and best friend to all. She most of all loved spending time with her cats. She had a good life and will be sorely missed. She will always be in our hearts and memories."

Marion is survived by her daughters, Elizabeth Finnerty, of Hitchcock, Texas, Joanne Smith and her husband, Glenn, of Sparrow Bush, N.Y., and Judith Finnerty, of Houston, Texas; sons, Roger Finnerty and his wife, Debra, of Pasadena, Md., and Terrance Snyder and his wife, Katherine, of Montague; four grandchildren, Steven Smith, Erik Finnerty, and Terrance and Kristen Snyder; six great-grandchildren, Michael, Christopher, Kyle and Jamie Smith and Chase and Kiera Finnerty; her loving niece, Toni Behnke and her husband, Larry, of Port Jervis, N.Y.; as well as several nieces and nephews, and her loving cat, Precious. In addition to her parents and husband, Marion was predeceased by two grandsons, Bryan and David Smith; a brother, Julius Tropeano; and two sisters, Theresa Zimmett and Lucy Teller.

Friends may call at the Gray-Parker Funeral Home Inc., 100 East Main St., Port Jervis, N.Y., Thursday, July 24, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral services will be held Friday, July 25, with a 9:15 a.m. prayer at the funeral home followed by a 10 a.m. Mass of Resurrection in St. Mary's R.C. Church, 46 Ball St., Port Jervis, N.Y. Burial will be at St. Mary's Cemetery, Port Jervis, N.Y.
