SPARTA -- John Langeraap, 65, of Sparta, passed away on Monday, July 28, 2014, at Hackensack Medical Center due to a blood disorder, myelodysplasia (MDS). Born in Newton, John was a 1967 graduate of Newton High School. He grew up as a dairy farmer and after his father sold their farm he became a mason and worked as a mason for 42 years. John also had a Christmas tree farm as a hobby. An extremely hard worker, John was well loved by his family. He especially adored his grandchildren. The son of the late Charles and Pauline (Deyong) Langeraap, John was also predeceased by a brother, Simon Langeraap, and a brother-in-law, John Paul. He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Marie (Stepongzi); four children, Michelle Smith and husband, Dennis, of Greenville, N.C., Donna Langeraap, of Andover, Tina Martin and husband, David, of Las Vegas, Nev., and Johnny Langeraap and wife, Ofelia, of Sparta; three sisters, Bertha Paul, of Johnsonburg; Alice Lockburner and husband, Tom, of Florham Park, and Martha Bylsma, of Florida; and nine grandchildren.
