Obituary Condolences

SPARTA -- Judson V. Bennett, 66, of Sparta, died Thursday, Aug. 7, 2014 at Newton Medical Center. Born in Newton, Judson had resided in Sparta most of his life.

Son of the late G. Vincent and Lucy (Vaughan) Bennett, Judson worked more than 30 years as a consulting forester. A devout and active member of the First Baptist Church of Newton, he also served as the head usher and financial secretary. He was also an active member of the New Jersey Tree Farm System, where he served as the treasurer, and was involved with the Society of American Foresters. Judson enjoyed the outdoors, was an avid gardener and spent down time reading books, particularly on Civil War history.

A loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather and brother, Judson will truly be missed by all who knew and loved him. He is survived by his beloved wife of 43 years, Deanna (Long) Bennett; his children, Joshua Bennett and his wife, Kimberly, of Vernon, Andrew Bennett and his wife, Amy, of Maryville, Tenn., Miriam Millsaps and her husband, Lee, of Knoxville, Tenn., and Nathan Bennett and his wife, Katie, of Hardyston; his brother Frank W. Bennett and his wife, Beverly, of Sparta; and sisters Edna Pett of Erie, Pa., and Lillian Killeen and her husband, Michael, of Sparta; and grandchildren Amelia, Aiden and Ava Bennett of Maryville, Tenn., and Bethany, Faith and Hannah Bennett of Vernon; as well as several nieces and nephews.

Graveside funeral services will be held Monday, Aug. 11, at 10 a.m. at the Sparta Cemetery. Visitation will be held today from 2 to 5 p.m. at Iliff-Ruggiero Funeral Home, 156 Main St., Newton.
