Gladys M. Hintzen

FRANKLIN -- Gladys M. (Ammacher) Hintzen, 86, died peacefully at home after a short illness on Thursday, Dec.10, 2009. The daughter of Karl and Nellie Ammacher, she was born and raised in Paterson, and lived there before moving to Franklin 25 years ago.

Mrs. Hintzen worked as a school crossing guard for 17 years in Paterson before retiring in 1985. She was an accomplished baker and cook and enjoyed knitting and entertaining with friends.

Mrs. Hintzen was predeceased by two brothers, Charles and Nelford Ammacher, and two sisters, Louise VanEss and Elissa Ammacher. She was the beloved wife of Charles J. Hintzen III; devoted mother of Charles J. Hintzen IV and his wife, Holly, of Wantage, Charlene and Sam Messina of Bloomingdale, Bruce E. and Ellen Hintzen of Huntersville, N.C., Wayne and Jamie Hintzen of Hardyston, Brian Hintzen of Paterson, Gary and Yvonne Hintzen of Franklin and Gladys and Robert Glesias of Newton; dear sister of Nellie Mullert of Paterson, Grace Smith of Copperas Cove, Texas, Violet Blum of Little Egg Harbor and Franklin Ammacher of Pennsylvania; and the cherished grandmother of 16 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. She is also survived by18 nieces and nephews.

The family will receive their friends at F. John Ramsey Funeral Home, 1 Main St., Franklin, today from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. A funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Monday at 11 a.m., with interment to follow at North Hardsyton Cemetery.
