Ellwood Norman Alex NEWTON -- Ellwood Norman Alex died Wednesday, July 21, 2010, at Care One at Madison Avenue in Morristown. He was 78.

Born in Philadelphia, Pa., Mr. Alex grew up in Lyndhurst and resided in Bloomingdale prior to moving to Newton in 1977. He was a Korean War veteran serving in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1952-1955. He worked as a maintenance foreman at Sandoz Pharmaceutical in East Hanover before his retirement. He was a member of the F&AM Lodge of Denville and enjoyed riding his Harley Davidson motorcycle and driving his boat at the Jersey Shore.

He was the loving husband of Loretta (Mackiewicz), beloved father of Michelle Alex, Susan Vaughan, Paul Ellwood Alex Sr., Donna Marie Connolly and her husband, Chuck, and Daniel Alex. He also was the adoring grandfather of 16 and cherished great- grandfather of four.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend visiting hours Monday from 9 to 11 a.m. at Leber-Lakeside Funeral Home, 150 Landing Road, Landing. Following visiting hours, military honors will be presented at the funeral home by the United States Marine Corps. Entombment will follow at Holy Cross Mausoleum in North Arlington.
