Obituary Condolences

HASBROUCK HEIGHTS -- Esther (Fitzgerald) Salomone, 90, of Hasbrouck Heights, formerly of Highland Lakes and Sarasota, Fla., died peacefully Wednesday Dec. 19, 2012, at her home following a long illness. Mrs. Salomone, daughter of the late Joseph and Catherine (Healy) Fitzgerald, was born in Jersey City Nov. 9, 1922.

Esther and her husband moved to Hasbrouck Heights in 1951 where they raised their children. For many years she worked for the Leonia and Pascack Valley boards of education, retiring in 1986. Upon her retirement, they moved to Highland Lakes while also maintaining a home in Sarasota, Fla.

Esther was a parishioner and member of the Rosary Society of Our Lady of Fatima R.C. Church in Highland Lakes. She was a former president of the Highland Lakes Ambulance Squad Auxiliary and had also served as president of the Women’s Auxiliary of Highland Lakes while being active with the senior group at the lake.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by brothers, Peter and Henry Fitzgerald, and sisters, Noreen Launay and Catherine Daunais. She was the devoted wife of 65 years to Nicholas P. Salomone; beloved mother of Nancy Eisenberg, and her husband, Lee, of Hasbrouck Heights, and the late Robert E. Salomone; loving sister of Patricia Lichholt, and her husband, John, of Ohio, and Frances Nist, and her husband, William, of Lakewood; daughter-in-law, Janice Salomone, of Somerset, and sister-in-law, Mary Ann Sciolaro; adored grandmother of Joshua E. Eisenberg, and his wife, Audrey, Matthew H. Eisenberg, and his wife, Noreen, Kate M. Eisenberg, Emily A. Johnson, and her husband, Chad, and Kyle R. Salomone; loving great-grandmother of Nicole A. Fierro, Andrew G. Eisenberg, Jamari E. Eisenberg and Avery D. Johnson. She is also survived by her dedicated caregivers, Avni Patel, Josie Rodriguez and Sharon Whyte.

A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday, 10 a.m., at Our Lady of Fatima RC Church, 184 Breakneck Road, Highland Lakes. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Compassionate Care Hospice 21-00 Route 208 South, Suite 105, Fair Lawn, NJ 07410, www.cchnet.net.
